Horse Enrichment Projects

Horse Enrichment Projects

Horses are smart, social, and built to move and forage for most of the day. When they can’t do that, they get creative in ways you won’t enjoy. Enrichment is the fix.

Why enrichment matters

In the wild, horses spend 16–18 hours a day grazing and moving. A stalled horse in a modern barn gets a fraction of that. Boredom shows up as cribbing, weaving, stall walking, wood chewing, and general misery. Enrichment gives a bored horse’s brain something to do.

Project 1: The Scatter Lick

Sprinkle Flavors Hydration Mix powder lightly across a flat rubber mat. Spread it unevenly so the horse searches for concentrated spots. Most horses spend 10–20 minutes investigating and licking.

Project 2: The Flavor Puzzle Ball

Mix Flavors powder into hay chaff or pellets until coated. Pour into a treat ball. The horse rolls the ball to release flavored bits. Great for horses who paw or crib when waiting for feed.

Project 3: The Water Feature

Fill a shallow tub with flavored water and float whole apples or carrots. The horse dunks for them, gets a mouthful of flavored water, and works for the treat. Especially good for reluctant drinkers.
