Why it exists

It started with one horse.

Lorilei, my mustang mare, developed a severe allergic response after the move to Florida. Her veterinarian was doing everything right, and I still couldn’t accept that this was as good as it was going to get.

I’m a systems engineer, so I went to the primary research on mast cells and histamine response, built a formula around the ingredients and amounts the studies actually used, and ran it on my own herd first. Perimeter is the result: one part of a management plan, used alongside your veterinarian, not instead of one.

“You may just need to send her north.” If you’ve heard that sentence, you know it lands like a goodbye. I wasn’t ready to accept there was nothing left to try.

Two strengths

Perimeter or Perimeter MAX?

Perimeter

The foundation formula

Daily nutritional support for horses whose skin and airway comfort is regularly challenged by environmental allergens. Most of my herd does well here.

47.5 g per day · 1,000 lb horse

Perimeter MAX

Same six ingredients, more of three

Twice the quercetin and bromelain and 50% more vitamin C, for when you and your veterinarian want a more intensive level of support. I made MAX for Lorilei.

56.6 g per day · 1,000 lb horse

More about Perimeter MAX →

Both launch together. 30 daily servings per tub.

How to feed it

Simple, but it is a protocol.

1

Load for two weeks

Two servings a day, one AM and one PM, for the first 14 days.

2

Then one serving, split

One serving a day, divided between the AM and PM feedings. Feed with or after a meal.

3

Weigh it

Adjust for body weight: ½ serving for a 500 lb pony, 1½ for a 1,500 lb draft. A digital scale is in the Intro Kit.

4

Keep it sealed

Powder, not pellets, because pelleting heat degrades quercetin and vitamin C. Store it airtight, cool and dry.

Intro Kit: two tubs, a digital scale and an Airscape® airtight canister.

The herd

Developed on my own horses.

Lorilei
Lorilei
The reason Perimeter exists — Perimeter MAX

Severe seasonal allergies. Needed more quercetin, bromelain, and vitamin C than the original formula provides, so she’s on Perimeter MAX as one part of her veterinarian’s management plan. Still wears a fly sheet and fly hood.

Wick
Wick
The Mustang — Perimeter Original

Wick had a soft cough that hung around. I put him on Perimeter, alongside his regular management, and I’ve been happy with how his airway comfort has held up. Perimeter supports a normal inflammatory response in the airway as well as the skin.

Reacher
Reacher
Seasonal Skin Sensitivity — Perimeter Original

Reacher used to break out in random hives and lose the hair on his chest, along his girth line, and under his jaw. Last year he needed a full fly sheet and hood. This year, on Perimeter, he’s gotten by with just a mask and fly spray.

Tae
Tae
Perimeter Original

Tae is part of the herd that Perimeter was developed and tested on. His outcomes contributed to the protocol refinement alongside Lorilei, Wick, and Reacher.

Perimeter is not a cure. Lorilei still wears a fly sheet and a fly hood every day. It’s daily nutritional support, used alongside your veterinarian’s plan, not instead of it.

Questions

Straight answers.

What is Perimeter by Improve Equine?

Perimeter is a science-forward equine supplement designed to support healthy histamine response, mast cell function, and immune regulation in horses. Every ingredient was selected from peer-reviewed research. There are no proprietary blends. Every dose is justified and every study is linked in The Library.

What does Perimeter do for horses?

Perimeter supports the horse’s natural histamine response and mast cell activity, supports normal inflammatory response in skin, airways, and joints, and provides antioxidant support at the cellular level. It is not a treatment or cure. It is a daily supplement protocol designed to support the body’s existing immune mechanisms.

What ingredients are in Perimeter?

Perimeter contains six active ingredients: Spirulina, OptiMSM®, Quercetin, Vitamin C, DHA from algae, and Bromelain. Every ingredient, active and inactive, is listed openly on the label. There are no proprietary blends and no hidden ingredients.

What is the difference between Perimeter and Perimeter MAX?

Perimeter MAX doubles the quercetin and bromelain and raises the vitamin C by half — the three ingredients Lorilei needed more of. MAX was developed because Lorilei, the horse Perimeter was built around, needed more of those three ingredients than the original formula provides. Most horses do well on Perimeter Original. Perimeter MAX is for when you and your veterinarian want a more intensive level of support.

Why does Perimeter pair quercetin with bromelain?

On its own, quercetin in its aglycone form is only approximately 4% bioavailable after oral administration. Bromelain has been studied for its ability to enhance quercetin absorption, so Perimeter pairs the two, and Perimeter MAX doubles both. The goal is to match the doses used in peer-reviewed research in a form the body can actually use.

Why does Perimeter use OptiMSM® instead of generic MSM?

OptiMSM® is manufactured by Bergstrom Nutrition using a multi-stage distillation process. Generic MSM is typically produced by crystallization, which does not remove contaminants to the same standard. When the dose in the research requires a specific level of purity, the manufacturing source is not a preference — it is a requirement.

What is the loading phase and why is it required?

The loading phase is two weeks at double the maintenance dose. Quercetin needs time to build to consistent levels in the body before it can offer steady support for normal mast-cell activity. Skipping the loading phase means you are not running the protocol. It is not optional.

How long does it take for Perimeter to work?

The loading phase runs for two weeks. After that, the horse transitions to the maintenance dose. Observable changes in comfort level vary by horse, severity of the underlying issue, and environmental conditions. The protocol is designed for consistent daily use, not short-term or as-needed supplementation.

Is Perimeter safe for horses with Cushing’s disease or metabolic issues?

Perimeter contains no added sugar, no molasses, no salt, and no electrolytes. The ingredient profile was designed with metabolic safety in mind. As with any supplement change for a horse with a diagnosed condition, consult your veterinarian before starting the protocol.

Why is Perimeter a powder and not pellets?

Pelleting requires heat that routinely reaches 70–90°C. Quercetin and vitamin C begin to degrade at temperatures above 60–80°C. Producing Perimeter as a pellet would destroy a meaningful portion of the active ingredients before the horse ever consumed it. Powder is not a compromise — it is the scientifically correct form for this formula.
